Restored Hue Citadel now a virtual reality

March 2nd, 2009

Ancient Hue Citadel has been reconstructed and restored to its heyday of the Nguyen Dynasty, but in virtual reality.

A newly produced film “Digital Reconstruction of Hue Imperial Citadel” uses advanced 3-D computer graphics to show the original architecture and design of some of Hue ’s most famous structures, such as Ngo Mon Gate, Thai Hoa Palace , the flag tower and the Imperial Citadel.

The film was made under an exchange of cultural heritage between Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK).

According to Cultural Heritage Administration of Korea Deputy Head Choi Song In-beom, by using advanced technology and equipment in the reconstruction of Hue ’s heritage buildings, a more complete picture of the heritage has been resurrected.

The film, developed by the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), not only has conservation value but will also be screened at Thai Hoa Palace for visitors to the citadel thanks to equipment donated by Samsung Vina.
