Minh Long ceramics imbue with Vietnamese culture

February 23rd, 2009

Ly Ngoc Minh is named “king of ceramics” as he is the founder of Minh Long ceramics which is now known not only at home but also abroad for its high quality, artistry and also its being imbued with Vietnamese culture.

Minh Long porcelain was founded in 1970 by Ly Ngoc Minh who is the third generation in a family of skilled ceramic artisans. During the 1985-1990 period, many beautiful and cheap ceramic products from abroad are available everywhere in Vietnam while Vietnamese ceramics could not find its outlet. That made Ly Ngoc Minh more determined to find a reason for the settlement of the problem.

He went to France, Germany, China and Japan to study the technology and the market. He then found out the reason for the matter: Binh Duong ceramics lacked of modern technology, marketing experience and market. Vietnamese ceramics are so simple in design while not much attention is paid to advertising the trademark. All are the golden key to revitalise Binh Duong ceramics.

Ly Ngoc Minh went to Hanoi to study folk culture from One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, Sword Lake, to Hue central city to learn the designs of ancient pagodas and royal tombs and visit places of interest in Ho Chi Minh City.

He also went to the world biggest ceramics fair in Frankfurt, Germany and a world biggest ceramic factory in China. Gradually, he found out that the key to Vietnamese ceramic is the image of Vietnamese culture. His first collection with trademark Minh Long with 54 pieces received high public appreciation.

He has spent time to create red and blue colour for his ceramics, which makes his products unique from the others. His two collections named Son Ha and Cam Tu with royal designs and red and blue colours were the most notable ones.

Minh Long porcelain is now known in many countries, from Europe and America to Japan and China. Minh Long I products won the WTO Prize at the international exhibitions in Germany and the Netherlands in 1996.

Minh Long products are artisan Minh, he breathes Vietnamese soul into his products not only to reach an art imbued Vietnamese culture but also advertise the Vietnamese tradition abroad.
