Hanoi preserves Thuong temple in Co Loa citadel
The Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, the center for the preservation of Co Loa citadel and Hanoi ancient citadel has recently held a scientific seminar on the preservation of Thuong temple in Co Loa citadel.
After three excavations from 2004 to 2007, archaeologists found that Thuong temple in Co Loa citadel in Hanoi’s Dong Anh district was one of area selected as a center of An Duong Vuong and Ngo Quyen period. This was an important metallurgy center in Co Loa citadel. There were also many brick and tile kilns in the 19th and late 20th century. Undamaged tubular vestiges were first found here.
Most scientists said that Thuong temple was an important and rare relics in Vietnam up to this time. Therefore, there is a need of effective measures for the preservation.
According Prof. Dang Van Bai, head of Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the relics must be in the general plan and make further research about it in the system of Vietnamese ancient citadel such as Hoa Lu, Bac Ninh and Son Tay in order to associate preservation with promotion of cultural tourism.
