An additional folklore culture address

February 23rd, 2009

The Vietnam Folklore Culture and Arts Association has recognized a folklore cultural address for a ca tru club in Chanh village, Van Nhan commune, Phu Xuyen district, the northern province of Ha Tay.

Chanh village is famous for ancient ca tru in the northern delta. Many singers performed and taught this art in different villages in the region. In the early decades of the 20th century, artisans opened singing places in the northern delta. However, having passed through many historical events, this art in Thanh Chon village was in danger of being get lost.

In 2007, Chanh Thon ca tru club was re-established thanks to old artisans and supports from the Vietnam Folklore Culture and Arts Association and Ha Tay provincial Centre of Culture and Information.

So far, 36 members in four generations have been studied and performed ancient tunes of traditional ca tru.

On this occasion, the Vietnam Folklore Culture and Arts Association also presented certificates of merit to three members for their contribution to the restoration and development of the club.
